Entry qualification | Bachelor diploma (or higher) Applicants must hold a university bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent college degree) in the fields listed below. Full credit acknowledgement is only given for a bachelor’s degree in Slavonic Studies, Specialized in Serbian Studies. In the case of any other degree, each diploma will be considered individually. The applicant must have 30 credits in the field of Serbian language, linguistics, literature or culture studies which might be acquired during the MA studies according to the Academic Regulations of the university. Transcripts from your bachelor’s degree as well as course descriptions will be requested. The educational and outcome requirements are defined by the Ministry of Human Capacities, Regulation No. 18/2016. (VIII. 5.). Details of the application and admission process are defined by the Organisational and Operational Regulations of ELTE. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Serbian. In most cases you can request a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university. |

Overview
Short description:
The aim of the program is to prepare students to become well-trained specialists in Serbian philology. Students acquire comprehensive knowledge of Serbian literature from its early period to date in a European context, as well as extensive knowledge of Serbian grammar and the history of the Serbian language. Moreover, they get acquainted with the latest linguistic theories, sociolinguistics, textology, lexicology, stylistics and phraseology. Developing both oral and written proficiency in Serbian is an important component of our education program. The program ends with the thesis on a chosen subfield of Serbian philology. Note that the program does not offer teaching qualifications. The MA program consists of a basic common component compulsory (60 credits) and an optional specialization (22 credits).
This program is recommended to applicants who have a special interest in Serbian language and literature and wish to work in an area that requires Serbian language skills or is related to Serbian culture.
This program enables students to work as specialists of Serbian philology in the economic, cultural, political or social field. There are many opportunities for young professionals with an excellent command of Serbian and a good understanding of the Serbian culture as well as of the historical, economic and social trends in contemporary Serbia.
Strength of program:
Students graduating from our university with an MA degree in Serbian Studies have general knowledge of philology with a specialization in Serbian literature and linguistics. The structure of our MA program is flexible and meets the needs of students with various interests. The strength of the course is also indicated by the scholarly achievements of the department staff (eg., regular participation in national and international conferences, regularly organized international conferences on Slavistics, numerous books and other national and international publications.)

Entrance examination and selection process: The application documents are processed by the Department of International Affairs and then forwarded to the department responsible for the given degree programme. The department checks the documents and organizes an interview by telephone, online (e.g. Skype) or in person. After the entrance interview, the department comes to a decision and informs the Department of International Affairs.

Students graduating from our university with an MA degree in Serbian Studies have an opportunity to work for Serbian or/and Hungarian joint companies, in the field of culture or the educational sector, in the tourist industry, or to find employment related to the cooperation between Serbia and Hungary in a broader sense. Our graduates can also engage in an academic career and after completing their doctoral training and the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation obtain a PhD degree.
