Overview
In 2000, the Ministry of Education prescribed the establishment of doctoral schools. The Doctoral School of Veterinary Science was based on previously launched programs, was rated as “compliant” by the HAC (i.e. Hungarian Accreditation Committee), and coursework started on Jan. 1st, 2001.
Ever since, we strive for continuous “quality improvement” both professionally and organizationally in order to offer better programs.
Our mission:
is to follow historical traditions of the Faculty of Veterinary Science
in sustainable agricultural production,
by safe food production requirements, and
with an excellent internal and international level of veterinary sciences and interdisciplinary fields
by training future generations of leading academics and researchers able to meet expectations in a knowledge-based and environment conscious society.
The current Hungarian or English language training takes place in close collaboration with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Institute for Veterinary Medical Research, the Central Agricultural Office, and other academic research centers primarily in the following disciplines:

Programme structure
As of September 2016, the Hungarian Higher Education Act modified the training period of doctoral schools from six semesters to eight semesters and divided the program into two phases. The first four semesters form the “study and research” phase, while the second phase comprises “research and dissertation”. At the end of the fourth semester of the doctoral program, students shall be required to conclude the study and research phase with a comprehensive examination aimed to measure and assess their progress made in study and research. Doctoral students shall submit their doctoral dissertations within three years after the comprehensive examination.
Throughout the 48-month doctoral program, doctoral students shall conduct their studies and research based on the personalized research plan prepared under the guidance of the thesis supervisor and approved by the DS council of Veterinary Science.
Students need to obtain a minimum of 240 credits during their 48-month programme.
Doctoral students failing to meet the above requirements are not allowed to continue their studies.
