Overview

Program description:
The programme aims to transfer cutting-edge research and scientific knowledge in the areas of economics, applied economics and management and to involve doctoral students in research enabling them to achieve results that are internationally recognized. Doctoral students are encouraged and supported to continue their academic work and to build a wide range of international scientific-research networks with scholars and domestically and internationally recognized institutions in the disciplines of economic and management.

Entry requirements:
Master’s degree, TOEFL or IELTS language certificate or Attestation of Language Proficiency in the case of former studies in English with fluent reading and speaking skills.

A preliminary acceptance letter from a supervisor accredited at the Doctoral School.
A research plan that is conform with one of the topics offered by the Doctoral School (www.doktori.hu) and a CV are required.

Entrance exam description:
After submitting all the necessary application documents including the statement of support of their future supervisor, the applicant takes a professional entrance examination (interview) via Skype organised by the Admission Committee of the Doctoral School. During the interview the applicant reports on the scientific experiences and presents the outline of their planned research and proves their knowledge in the chosen topic. The results are measured on a scale of 1-100 and the applicants have to score at least 56 points to get admitted.

Programme structure

The duration of doctoral programmes is 8 semesters. Doctoral programmes are divided
into two different phases: the first phase (4 semesters) is for professional training and research, while the second phase (4 semesters) is for research and dissertation. At the end of the first 4 semesters, doctoral students are obliged to take a complex exam, where the educational and research progress of the student is evaluated. Doctoral students can only continue with the second phase of their studies upon the successful completion of the complex exam.

Prerequisites for Obtaining a Doctoral Degree
• The successful completion of the complex exam.
• At least two or three publications of academic work (at least one in a refereed national journal, or equivalent book, excerpt or chapter of a book, and at least one in a refereed international journal, book or equivalent, excerpt or chapter of a book, or at least two non-refereed foreign journals or equivalent, book, excerpt or chapter of a book).
• The defending of a doctoral dissertation in-house and in a public debate.
