Overview

Program description:
The Computer Science Engineering program at the Bachelor level is developed to provide solid knowledge and understanding about the foundations, methodologies, applications, and practice of computer sciences and today’s information technology. The course is designed by taking into account two perspectives: to provide the necessary theoretical background for the students by providing those foundations and experiences at the same time, which prepare them for problem solving and future challenges, and focusing on the industry-related practice of the field to provide up-to- date knowledge about the most widely used technologies, which can be used immediately on the market after graduation.

Four major specialities are offered for the students: IOT, embedded systems and robotics specialization, Big Data and business intelligence specialization, Cloud service technologies and IT security specialization (with two subspecializations) and Software design and development specialization (with three subspecializations).

These specializations cover the most important and rapidly improving fields of computer science. Each specialization contains at least six courses focusing on the core knowledge of the field of interest completed with laboratories. During the theoretical and laboratory courses the most up-to-date devices and equipments are applied in order to prepare our students for the challenges of the industry.

The aim of the course can be summarized in the following way: qualify computer science engineers who are competent to install, develop and maintain technical IT and information infrastructure systems and services, and to participate in the design and development tasks of the data and program systems of those, as well as possess the necessary high-level knowledge to pursue the program at master level.

Programme structure

The bachelor’s degree in computer engineering is 7 semesters. The diploma requires 210 credits.
To obtain a bachelor’s degree, you must have a state-recognised intermediate level (B2) complex language examination or equivalent diploma or certificate in at least one foreign language.

Studying with us will give you a broad professional grounding in the first few semesters, followed by a mastery of the core IT subjects. The core curriculum consists of modules in systems engineering, software engineering and IT systems. You will be required to demonstrate your mastery of the core knowledge by successfully completing the professional diploma at the end of the first stage of your studies.

From the 4th semester onwards, you can study the specialisation in Cloud Service Technologies and IT Security, which will provide you with in-depth, specialised theoretical and practical knowledge in this field of IT in the curricular application of IT.

You will also be expected to complete an appropriate number of electives during the foundation and specialisation courses. These subjects deal with popular, topical issues in computer science, giving you the opportunity to gain additional knowledge in cutting-edge areas of computer science.

In the final year of your training, the main aim is to write a thesis, for which you can get professional help during your placement, even from the companies concerned.

The structure of the course consists of three parts:
- general studies related to computer science and connected areas (natural sciences, economics and human sciences, professional core curriculum);
- and specific studies related to a given specialization of computer science (specialization, optional subjects);
- independent work (thesis work, internship).

Students should obtain the following credits from given fields of expertise during their studies:
Natural sciences 42 credits,
Economics and human sciences 18 credits,
Professional core curriculum 77 credits,
Specialization 48 credits,
Optional subjects 10 credits,
Thesis 15 credits.
Total number of credits: 210 credits.

Internship is a project-structured practice of at least 8 weeks (containing 320 work hours) fulfilled alone or in teamwork at a suitable organization or at the University’s training place.
The internship can be done in Hungary or in other countries as well.
