Overview
Programme description:
The role of the Business IT Specialist is to bridge the communication gap between the programmers and the business customer of the programme. A successful business will always have a well-trained business IT specialist behind it.
Students study around 60% of the subjects in the BSc Computer Science programme: algorithms, programming languages, programming environments, database management, web development. Graduates can also choose a career in business, as many business subjects are also included in the course list, such as micro and macroeconomics, finance, business management, etc. Both fields require a mathematical foundation and courses include discrete mathematics, linear algebra, probability and statistics. The course also introduces candidates to two business management systems (ABAS and SAP). Students who choose the Big Data specialisation will be introduced to modern methods of business intelligence and data analysis.

The admission procedure consits of the following parts:
- 20-30 minutes long online interview
- evaluation of application documents
Online interview: The University will contact all applicants to set up a suitable time for the online interview. Applicants will be interviewed by appointed staff members from the Department and the international office. Professors will check the applicant’s preliminary knowledge of the chosen study area and motivation. The international office will check the language skills and intercultural competences of the applicant.
The admission decision is based on the following results:
- result of previous studies (max. 20 points)
- CV, motivation letter (max. 20 points)
- online interview (max. 60 points)
Minimum admission requirements: 60 points. Those applicants who gain less than 5 points in any section of the admission procedure will be rejected.

Career opportunities
An IT specialist is a fully-fledged IT professional who specialises in business. Your work will involve designing and testing software to support the implementation of business processes. You will write, develop and test business and management models and algorithms. You will have a creative role in providing IT support for business issues and problems. You will create and administer databases. You will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining IT systems that allow communication and shared database management between the different parts of a company (warehouse, sales, administration, accounting, etc.).
