Program description:
The robust presence of the United States throughout the world, well observable in the contexts of politics, economy, and culture, calls for a body of experts who – aside from having excellent English language skills – have a specialised knowledge in the history, politics, society, culture, language, and literature of the United States. With this aim in mind, the MA programme in American Studies seeks to impart its graduates with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills that can be fruitfully utilised in both private and public sector establishments interested in the communication and/or representation of American values and interests. The three­year long programme does not confer teaching qualifications. The level of language proficiency corresponds to C2 level (proficiency) of CEFR. The language of instruction in all courses is English. Students are eligible for admission to PhD programmes. Structure of the program On SEAS website Strength of program Students will acquire: a sound knowledge of and fluency in American English (oral and written, academic style) in­depth knowledge of the culture, history, and literature of the United States in­depth knowledge of the determining communicational channels of the United States (TV, press, internet, etc.). Career opportunities Academic: in all fields requiring a university degree without specifications of majors, in PhD programmes requiring a major specific degree. Out of University careers: journalism, tourism, teaching English in non­state funded schools, government organisations, diplomacy, any other job not requiring degree­specific skills, etc.

Entrance exam description:
The application documents are processed by the Department of International Affairs and then forwarded to the department responsible for the given degree programme. The department checks the documents and organizes an interview by telephone, online (e.g. Skype) or in person. After the entrance interview, the department comes to a decision and informs the Department of International Affairs.
