Overview
The Hungarian University of Fine Arts offers a wide range of theoretical instruction classes and disciplines that are considered high even by international standards. This allows students to receive help and consultation in numerous interdisciplinary areas. The university offers the most diverse forms of specialized instruction in the fine arts in Hungary, including courses in restoration, intermedia, and visual communication. Instructors and researchers are available to assist students with various issues they may encounter during their programs, such as material, technology, and media, ranging from dramaturgy, art psychology, art theory, architectural history, costume history, to pedagogy.
The education and research programs focus on critical issues of Hungarian and international contemporary arts and explore the integration of contemporary art into universal art from the perspectives of art history and theory. This is achieved through courses in social sciences and art theory, presentations and research of professional analogies, and the application of creative methods and methodologies of contemporary art. Other means include practical and theoretical consultations, individual research and practical work, communicative tasks related to the works, documentation of the progress of the work, and presentation of partial findings. Furthermore, background materials necessary to realize the creative program are presented to students of the doctoral and graduate programs in a way that suits the nature of the material, whether visually, verbally, or utilizing the appropriate media. The university also plans the presentation and exhibition of realized projects where conditions permit.

The announced research topics can be found on the following website:

The admission procedure is designed to select the most suitable candidates from among the applicants, as the Doctoral School can only accept a limited number of doctoral candidates. The decision will be based on the applications submitted, suitability, creative career, quality of the work plan, and additional information will be provided to the Committee during the interview, which will take place in person or online.
According to the HUFA regulations on doctoral training, admission to the doctoral school is based on the submission of an individual work plan for one of the announced doctoral topics, including a description of the doctoral candidate’s planned artistic creation and research work, in a schedule corresponding to the chosen topic, for the first two years of the training period. Therefore, the Admissions Committee will evaluate both the feasibility of the individual work plan and the works presented during the admission interview. Since the DLA degree is primarily required for those who wish to pursue a career in teaching, the Admissions Committee may consider teaching qualifications in its decision.
