Program description:
Specialisation 1: Opera Singer
Goal
The education of opera singers who will be able to meet the high level expectations of modern performing practice, both technically and artistically.
Programme
Learning and analysing operatic roles. Performing vocal cord and respiratory exercises, studying as many different pieces as possible (Lieder, arias, chamber compositions) and performing them in their original languages, studying the characteristics of various vocal types, and getting acquainted with the interpretation of specific musical styles. These training steps are followed in a manner that is best suited to the talents of the individual student.
Exam
Preparations for exams are held on stage, in order to correct singing mistakes due to moving and acting. Students are obliged to learn and perform four greater roles and two smaller roles, all in their original languages. At the end of the semester, fragments chosen from these vocal parts are interpreted with a piano accompanist in an exam open to the public, whereas at the end of the academic year the piano accompaniment is replaced by a conducted orchestra. Additionally, an exam is held at the end of each semester by the Opera Department, where the students perform on stage with costumes, make up, lighting, etc.

Specialisation 2: Oratorio and Song Performer
The aim is to master as much pieces composed for a certain voice type as possible (Lieder, oratorios, cantatas, chamber compositions), tending to reach the highest artistic level. Getting acquainted with the interpretational style of different periods, putting accent on mastering the pieces in their original languages and understanding the connection between lyrics and music are further goals of the education.
Suggested literature
Oratorios and cantatas by Handel and J S. Bach; songs from Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Loewe, Liszt, Debussy, R. Strauss, etc.
Exam
2 concerts in a course of an academic year held usually in January and May.1. semester1 classic song, 1 romantic song, 1 contemporary Hungarian song, 1 20th century song (not Hungarian), 1 oratorical ensemble (duet, trio, quartet), 2 arias from oratorios or cantatas
Programme in duration of 20-25 minutes. It can be a selection from a song cycle or a series of songs from either one composer, one poet or dealing with one subject. Other ideas are welcome!the entire material has to be sung in the original language
Diploma Concert
The diploma concert is due in the 4th semester. It is open to public and should last 1 hour. Requirement
The selection has to fulfil very high artistic standards, therefore the list of compositions planned for the concert has to be submitted to the committee of the teaching staff of the Department for previous approval.

The student can choose to perform a song cycle or a series of songs from either one composer, one poet or dealing with one subject. Entrance exam description:
The entrance examinations for all courses at the Liszt Academy of Music take place at the end of June and at the beginning of July. Applicants whose submitted musical portfolio (recording of three works performed by the applicant) has passed the pre-screening are informed about the exact date of their entrance examination during May. The entrance examinations take place at the Liszt Academy of Music, in Budapest, Hungary. All applicants are required to appear before the Entrance Examination Committe in person for the examinations. Live streaming, video streaming, DVDs, CDs, or any other recordings are not accepted as a substitute. Applicants are informed about the result of the entrance examinations in July. Entry requirements: Applicants are to take a practical examination in their chosen specialisation (live audition), and theoretical examination (written examination).
