Overview

Program description:
The two-year long Applied Mathematics program at the Master level is developed to provide expert knowledge and understanding about the specificities, methodologies, applications, and advanced practice of applied mathematics. The course is designed by taking into account two perspectives: to provide the necessary theoretical background for the students by providing those specificities and experiences at the same time, which prepare them for problem solving and future challenges, and focusing on the industry-related advanced practice of the field to provide up-to-date knowledge about the most widely used techniques, which can be used immediately on the market after graduation.

One specialization is available for the students which is unique in Hungary: Engineering computational methods. The courses on the specialization focus on the core knowledge of the field of interest completed with laboratories. During the theoretical and laboratory courses the most up-to-date software environments are applied in order to prepare our students for the challenges of the industry.

The aim of the course is to train mathematicians who are able to effectively model and solve problems that arise in real-life applications, within engineering, natural sciences, industry and management. The curriculum follows the recommendations of the SIAM, putting emphasis on application-oriented mathematics, practical applications, modelling and communication skills, team work, computer programming and high-performance computing. Students become able to extend their knowledge in the frame of PhD studies.

Programme structure

The student needs to hold an official language certificate at the moment of he/she receives his/her diploma.

The structure of the course consists of three parts:
● general studies related to applied mathematics and connected areas (foundational courses (in the lack of Mathematics BSc), core courses);
● and specific studies related to the given specialization (differentiated specialization (engineering mathematics), optional subjects);
● independent work (thesis work).

Internship is not the part of the curriculum of Applied Mathematics MSc.

Students should perform the following credits from given fields of expertise during their studies:
Foundational courses (in the lack of Mathematics BSc) 20 credits,
Core courses 25 credits,
Differentiated specialization (engineering mathematics) 40 credits,
Optional subjects (30 credits for Mathematics BSc) 15 credits,
Thesis 20 credits
