We would like to inform you about the latest updates regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and related measures in Hungary.
Following the decision of the Parliament, the state-of-emergency ended in Hungary on 17 June at midnight and the emergency powers handed to the government in March in response to the coronavirus epidemic were terminated.
Hungary’s government has introduced a state of “pandemic preparedness” across the entire country with the declaration of a “health crisis”, a decree published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows. The decree comes into force on 18 June, the day after a state of emergency ended.
The government will review the necessity of the state of pandemic preparedness every three months, according to the decree which will remain in force until December 18, 2020.
The restriction on shopping hours reserved for elderly people (between 9am and noon) will be terminated as of 18 June, but rules on wearing masks in shops and on public transport would remain compulsory.
With the end of the special legal order, the rules and restrictions concerning border crossing also changed. According to the new regulations, as of midnight 17 June, citizens of the Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens of Serbia, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland, are free to enter the territory of Hungary. At the same time, Hungarian citizens are exempt from the obligation to quarantine when they return home from the Member States of the European Union, Serbia, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Iceland.
Those who do not hold a citizenship of a country from the European Union or the European Economic Area (with the exception of citizens of the United Kingdom), cannot enter the country yet. However, in some special cases the local police, or the National Police Headquarters in case of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport, may grant a special permit to enter the country upon request. Those having a student status are subject to specific rules with regards to entering Hungary. We will share the details and necessary conditions and procedures of entering the country with you soon, and therefore, we ask you to regularly check your inbox and our website for the latest updates.
We will also keep informing you about the updates and we ask you to also pay continuous attention to the information you receive from your university and via the Neptun system.
